Do you know what kind of viruses exist?
Trojan Horses
These are computer programs with apparently or actually useful functions but which contain additional (hidden) functions that surreptitiously exploit the system, such as making blind copies of or e-mailing sensitive files.
Sleepers
These are areas of code within programs that will be achieved at a later date to result in compromise, denial or loss of data.
Trapdoors
These are hidden software mechanisms that permit security features within the software to be circumvented. They may be activated in some non-apparent manner such as a special random key sequence at a terminal.
Logic Bombs
These spring into action with devastating results, such as the wiping of entire storage disks or the destruction of programs.
Cancers
This is corrupt coding which grows and spreads throughout the database.
Macro
These are viruses written in the Macro language of word-processing, spreadsheets, databases or other application programs that can overwrite data, modify the contents of documents and even send documents out of an organisation via E-Mail. These viruses spread when infected documents are transferred. The most vulnerable applications are currently Microsoft Word (6.x; 7.x and 97) and Microsoft Excel.
